The very mention about a Brain Tumour can send shivers down anybody’s spine and especially when the patient is a 3-year-old child, the agony and pain of the family can be felt and understood.
One such critical case was received at Sanjeevini Multispeciality and Superspeciality Hospital, based at Mahalakshmi Layout in Rajajinagar, Bangalore.
Says Dr. Subash Reddy, Founder and MD of Sanjeevini Hospital, “This 3-year-old child from North Eastern part of Kolkata, West Bengal was diagnosed with Brain Tumour (8cm * 6cm) in the posterior side, just 20 days before he connected with us. Due to the absence of adequate facilities at the local hospital to treat emergencies of this magnitude, he was recommended to seek immediate medical attention, out of Kolkata and was referred to visit a hospital with advanced technology driven facilities and hence connected with us”.
The child’s family who happened to be from an economically poorer background had to go through many challenges logistically before they reached Bangalore. Additionally, before reaching Sanjeevini, the family got in touch with another hospital in Bangalore, who after getting all the required diagnostic tests done for the child, expressed their inability to take the critical surgery forward and instead, referred the child to contact Dr. Subhash Reddy at Sanjeevini.
After thorough analysis of the child and the previous medical reports, the Neurosurgery Department at Sanjeevini concluded that though this surgery was extremely critical, they will take it up. Decision was also taken that the child would be on ventilator after the surgery and after counselling the family on the high risks involved and seeking their consent, the surgery was taken up.
The long surgery was successfully performed by the Neurosurgery team ably assisted by Dr. Sahana, HOD – Paediatrics and her team.
The patient recovered very well, thanks to the immense focus and contributions of Dr. Anirudh. S, Dr. Sahana and frequent interactions with Dr. Subash Reddy, MD Sanjeevini Hospital and the entire medical staff. The emotionally drained, tense and anxious family members were extremely pleased to hear about the success of the surgery and recovery of the child.
Well supported by advanced technology driven surgical equipment, state-of-the-art infrastructure and a highly qualified and experienced medical team, the 3-year-old child returned happily to its native is doing very well under frequent monitoring of doctors from Bangalore.
Dr. Subash concludes, “This was a really a high-risk surgery. One of its kind with very little hope and the results could have gone either way. It was the will-power of the family that gave the team the confidence to showcase their surgical finesse which they did exceedingly well. The results are there for all of us to see”
